What is an AI-SDR?
SDR means sales development rep — the person who finds prospects, reaches out, and follows up until there's a real conversation. An AI-SDR does that groundwork with software: it researches each prospect, writes outreach that's actually about them, follows up with discipline, and hands you the ones who respond — so your first touch with a prospect is a conversation, not a cold call.
What it actually does
- Researches before it writes. One prospect, one message built for them — not one blast sent to a thousand.
- Follows up on schedule, every time. The follow-up is where most outreach quietly dies; software doesn't get busy or forget.
- Qualifies the replies. Curiosity gets a useful answer; real intent gets moved toward a conversation.
- Hands off to a human at the right moment. When genuine interest shows, a person takes over — the AI opens doors, people build the relationship.
Isn't that just spam?
Spam is volume without relevance. This is the opposite bet: fewer messages, each one researched and specific, sent from properly warmed addresses on separate sending domains — because the standard for cold email got higher, and boring blast email is what died. If a message wouldn't be worth reading, the answer is to not send it.
What it gets you
Conversations with people who weren't looking for you yet. A pipeline that fills from consistent outreach instead of waiting on referrals and search — and a calendar where the meetings come from replies, not cold-call luck.
What it doesn't do
An AI-SDR starts conversations — it doesn't close deals, and it can't fix an offer people don't want. The humans still do the selling; it just makes sure they have someone to sell to.
